The American Legion War Museum displays artifacts from America’s military history.  It is located at the corner of North Main Street and Academy Street in Greenville. The War Museum opened its doors to the public in August of 2002.  Among the museum’s unique exhibits is a piece of Spanish-American War sheet music signed by Teddy Roosevelt, a pair of WWII hand held Army walkie-talkies, a 500 pound aerial bomb of WWII vintage, and an original Civil War forage cap worn by a South Carolina soldier at the Battle of First Manassas on July 21, 1861. The museum exhibits actual military artifacts from the Civil War to the present. It also has displays on our local military heritage which includes exhibits on Camp Wetherill (Spanish-American War 1898-1899), Camp Sevier (WWI 1917-1918), Greenville Army Air Base (WWII 1942-1945) and Donaldson Air Force Base (1952-1963). The American Legion War Museum of Post #3 in Greenville is dedicated to telling the story of our county, state, and national military history. Admission is free. Hours are Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 1-5. The museum may be closed on some holidays.
